Understanding Lot Sizes: Case, Pallet, LTL, & Load

What is a Case?


• Description: Smallest unit offered, often individually boxed products.

• When it's available: Used for items like cosmetics, small electronics, etc.

• Shipping: UPS/FedEx – no liftgate or forklift needed.

• Who it's ideal for: eBay sellers, beginners, limited space.

What is a Pallet?


• Description: Goods stacked on a 48"x40" wooden pallet, shrink-wrapped.

• When it's available: Used for most items when quantity is large (or when each unit is very large.)

• Shipping: Requires freight delivery (which requires a lift gate if the delivery location does not have a dock.)

• Who it's ideal for: Swap meet sellers, small storefronts, Amazon FBA, etc.

What is LTL (Less Than Truckload)?


• Description: Multiple pallets shipped together, not filling a full truck.

• When it's available: Used when multiple pallets are purchased or for lots that are too large for a single pallet.

• Shipping: Requires freight delivery - which requires a lift gate if the delivery location does not have a dock. More economical than shipping a single pallet.

• Who it's ideal for: small storefronts, large storefronts, medium to large online sellers, etc.

What is a Truckload (load purchase)?


• Description: 24 – 26 pallets, which would fill a 53' truck.

• When it's available: Used when multiple pallets are purchased or for lots that are too large for a single pallet. Lots will often be sold by the Truckload

• Shipping: Requires freight delivery - which requires a lift gate if the delivery location does not have a dock. Most economical option if you can handle the volume.

• Who it's ideal for: Serious sellers, large storefronts, large online sellers, etc.
